Grandview is offering a 4-week series beginning October 9 at 7pm called Wonder, Love and Praise: Sharing a Vision of the Church. This is a program produced by the Committee on Faith and Order designed to engage United Methodists in a study of how we understand what it means to be the Church. By engaging in this study, we will learn more about who we are, and what we expect to happen when we come together as a body.

Embrace Lancaster and Grace UCC, 1947 New Holland Ave., are hosting a National Geographic film and discussion on the science of gender. The film will be shown on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 6:30pm at Grace. All are invited to attend.

Crop Walk, which fights hunger locally and globally, will be held Sunday, Oct. 15 at Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave. (Note new starting location, right in our neighborhood.) Registration begins at 12:30pm with the walk beginning at 1:30pm.

Grandview and First UMC are sponsoring an Oct. 14 coach bus trip to Philadelphia for the Time Travelers program at St. George's UMC, one of the oldest Methodist churches in the U.S. The program is a re-enactment of a key schism in Methodist History. Adults and youth, and especially this year's 9th-grade confirmation class, are all encouraged to attend. Please sign up at the Hub to let us know if you think you may be interested. Interested in knowing more about the mission and ministries of Grandview Church?  Join our Inquirer’s Class on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 5:30-8:30pm. The class will include dinner, a tour of the building, and information about what it means to be a member of Grandview. Attending this session in no way obligates you to join our church, although it is a precursor to membership. Sign up at the Hub or talk to Kirstin Shrom-Rhoads. Nepal Fundraiser – Team Trivia Night PDF Print E-mail

Mark your calendars for Saturday, Nov. 11 at REology, 315 W. James St., Lancaster (Main entrance and parking off of Mulberry St.) From 7-10pm to join folks for a Team Trivia Night Nepal fundraiser. The night will consist of 8 person teams competing in an 8-round mixed topics trivia contest (Maximum 12 teams). Individual players will be ‘grouped’ into 8 person teams for the competition. Silent auction (theme baskets) winners named at staggered intervals during the competition. Various contests, both individual and team, between rounds. BYOB; snacks provided. Entry Donation: $15 per person or $100 per table of 8 people.

The Apple Festival, a yearly event to benefit Boehm’s Chapel, will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m.-3pm at Boehm’s Methodist Church in Willow Street. Grandview’s role  has been the donation of our apple bread.. Please deliver the bread to the church office on Friday, October 6 before 2 pm.

Grandview will host three listening sessions this fall about Dennis Spangler's possible parole next spring. The sessions will provide information and give attenders an opportunity to listen to each others' fears and hopes. Dates are Sept. 20, Oct. 18, and Nov. 15. Each session begins at 7pm.

The next book for Grandview Readers will be discussed on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7pm at Dorothy Killebrew’s. Bring a covered dish meal to share followed by discussion of the book America and Its Guns: A Theological Expose by James E. Atwood. The Rev. Atwood, an avid hunter, takes a hard look at America’s 30,000 gun deaths per year. Having spent 36 years fighting against easy access to firearms, he uses his experience and theological understanding to document how Americans have been deceived into believing that the tools of violence, whether in war or in the bedside stand, will provide security.

Grandview Connections (GC) is a blog for discussing the weekly sermon content thus making connections between the pastors' words and the thoughts, feelings and actions of Grandview UMC members and friends.  The sermon is a starting point for what can be a very rich discussion about faith and will serve as a source for reflection and a building block for an online faith community that is available at any time.
